About Me

My name is Katelyn Lilley and I am a Junior at the University of South Alabama. I am an Elementary Education major and I enjoy everything about learning how to become a teacher. I graduated from Faulkner State Community College last summer and received a bachelors degree in Science. I believe that my calling in life is to be around children and try to make a difference any way I can. I am looking forward to the years that come and I am anxious to see what the future holds for me.

My Teaching Philosophy

Fairness

I believe that fairness is a major part of teaching. Each and every child has the right to be the best he or she can be. Each child deserves the same opportunities and advantages throughout the education process. By being fair and equal to each student, insurance of equality and equal opportunity of learning occurs. Teachers in my opinion should not have favorites and should not treat one child different from another. Fairness gives children a sense of equality and that is very important to young children.

Good Learning and Teaching Styles
I believe that having good learning and teaching styles is very important as a classroom teacher. As a teacher, having a fun and exciting way to teach young children is important because it will make students want to learn more. If a teacher as the same routine while doing learning and teaching styles, children will feel comfortable and safe in the classroom environment. Same routines are important to children because it gives them a sense of security. If a child enjoys learning and if the teacher makes the process organized and useful, as well as enjoyable, kids will be able to obtain more out of learning.

Commitment
I believe that commitment is an important trait to possess as a teacher. In my opinion, commitment is not giving up on students, values, and other aspects as an educator. It is a teachers job to be committed to each and everyone of his or her students. A teacher should always give personal attention and needs help or falls behind, teachers should be committed to those students to allow them to strive forward. Teachers also in my opinion should be committed to his or her career as a teacher. They should not fall behind or slack and try to be the best he or she can be as an educator.

Humor
I believe that humor is an important value of teaching. I believe that humor is a way of not taking yourself so seriously. Humor gives the power to teachers to let students know that it is ok to laugh, have fun and enjoy learning. Many kids have a misconception about school. They think that school is a scary and gloomy place. If teachers use humor in everyday life in the classroom, students will enjoy learning and want to come back each day. Humor is also a great way for students to think outside of the box and broaden their imaginations. A child with a great imagination can do almost anything.
